Reference xh05 About "Ehamba" Ehamba (Xhosa for we are walking) Growing up in the Transkei among the Xhosa Nation I have so many vivid memories of traditional lifestyle of the people. Here is a group of people walking to the local Trading Store probable 20 kiles away. The old wise man in front with the beard is taking his goat to exchange for maybe tobacco, food, matches etc.The lady behind has some baked food to sell, the boy is carring water on nhis head, lady with the green is a typical Xhosa rural woman with baby wrapped in blanket on the back, pumpkin on her head and smoking her traditional long stem Xhosa pipe. Last in line a young maiden also with child on her back and large basket of fruit on her head. That is a typical local scenario. |
