About Marion
Previous exhibitions include: Wall to Wall Walls at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town (February 2006) and Intuitive Thought at the Stewart Gallery in Parkhurst Johannesburg (July 2004). The former dealt with the tendency of people to surround themselves with walls both mental and physical, and the latter the quest to attain balance, stability and harmony at the same time as stretching out to overcome limitations and prejudice.
Another body of work called 'The Pride of the Bride' focuses on the innocence of youth with dreams of fairytale weddings. She observes the transition from innocence to awareness, the developing responses to trappings of society such as vanity, competitiveness and materialism, and their culmination in a wedding ceremony that all too often takes on an importance that conceals the real challenges of marriage.
She notes wryly that of all the effort and resources poured into that one brief extraordinary occasion, the wedding dress will remain for ever after a lonely and unused monument, hanging in a cupboard wrapped in plastic, accompanied by mothballs.
