About Jean

I was born in Johannesburg and as a child l loved drawing and always looked forward to art classes at school. I only took art seriously in l990, when I decided to attend art classes with a local teacher to learn to paint in oils. I enjoyed this greatly and after six months, l went to Sonya Allais, who introduced me to watercolours.
I love this medium and flora is my firm favourite subject to paint, although l enjoy landscapes and other subjects.
I belonged to an art club in Johannesburg, for several years, enjoyed a wonderful week-long workshop the late Malachi Smith, whose work l greatly admired and was inspired by.
I moved to KZN in 1998 and joined the Upper South Art Association (USSCA) and the Highway Art Group. I enjoyed 5 years of art with these groups. We were like a family, enjoying, workshops and outings to art museums and learning from each other.
Moving to Cape Town in 2012, I joined The Blaauwberg Art Society and the South African Art Society, both of which l am very happy to be a member of.
I am a widow and live with my daughter and her family in Cape Town.
