About "Girl in a Hat"

This is a portrait of a happy child who is proud of her hat and pretty yellow dress. The yellow of her dress gives the painting an impression of sunshine and happiness. It might even be a special occasion, such as her birthday. Her smile is charming without being over confident. Her dark skin sets off the yellow of her dress in a pleasing contrast.
