About Liz

ABOUT ME-LIZ FINLAY
I am Liz Finlay nee Broerse. I was born in Indonesia, and came to South Africa with my Dutch parents, as a child.
We lived in Johannesburg and later Potchefstroom where I matriculated at Potchefstroom Girls High. After college, I worked in Johannesburg where I met my husband, an engineer on the gold mines.
Most of my working life was spent spinning the wheel making stoneware pottery, which was very sought after at the time.
When all our daughters had graduated from university, I shut down my pottery studio and decided to try something new.
I started art classes with Christine Lamberth in Secunda, who awakened my enthusiasm for art.
When we retired from the mines we moved to the KwaZulu Natal South Coast and settled in a beautiful seaside village. I have had several wonderful teachers whilst living here, but currently I belong to a super group of like minded artists, meeting weekly, although I do most of my work in my own studio.
I have taken part in many successful exhibitions in our area, and most of my work has been sold in this country I do have paintings in private collections in Canada, Holland, Germany and Australia.
As with my pottery career, what started as an enjoyable hobby, seems to have grown substantially. However, I vow not to allow it to overtake me as the pottery did.
I still love the smell of the oil paint and turps rag, and never want it to become a job. I now drink my coffee from store bought mugs.
