About "Joy Unspeakable Rose"

I named this painting 'Joy Unspeakable Rose' because it brought great joy to me to paint it. I got the inspiration from Paintmyphoto.com by Dale Cato.

I enjoyed painting the background using all the rich colours I could mix. By using the primary colours only, I managed to bring harmony between the background and the delicate rose and bud.

I was careful not to turn this beautiful rose in to a pink rose. What I was wanting to achieve was to show the sheer delicacy of the yellow petals with a hint of red.

Planted in the house of the Lord, they shall flourish.

About Valerie

I am a South African oil painter from East London whose work explores the beauty of nature through colour, realism and expressive mark-making. My paintings combine contemporary floral realism with impressionistic and abstract influences. Recognisable flowers are surrounded by layered, painterly backgrounds in which colour, texture and movement create atmosphere and emotion.

Working from my sun-filled studio, I approach each painting with curiosity and a willingness to experiment. Inspired by flowers, light, nature and the richness of everyday life, I seeks not only to paint what I see, but to capture the feeling it evokes. My work is ultimately about beauty, optimism and the joy of being alive.
