About "Lena with March Lilly" This work is part of a series of three that I have painted of my artist friend, Magdalena Adolph. She hails from Namibia and can speak fluent Nama which is but some of the aspects that for me make her a remarkable person to know. Magdalena, called Lena by her friends, related how the stunning March Lilly's in the Namaqua veldt welcomed them when they first arrived in Vanrhynsdorp where she and her husband have been living for the past 15 years. I especially admire Lena for her positive attitude towards life. She played an integral part in the body mapping workshops that I facilitated in 2014 and 2015. During these workshops she testified to the therapeutic value art practice, dance and storytelling had in her life. |

Desiree likes to explore different media such as oils, acrylics, pastels, cont. and drawing inks, however she always returns to sculpting, her subject mostly being the human form. The artist prefers a slightly idealized naturalistic style when sculpting portraits. Her sculpture medium varies from wood, ceramic, clay cast in cement fondue, mosaic and bronze.
