About "Lotus Pond 1 of 3 Set"

This is a set of three paintings i.e. Lotus Pond 1, Lotus Pond 2, Lotus Pond 3. Price given per single painting. The originals are sold only as a set. However the giclee prints can be ordered individually. Size of print is: w 510mm x h 620mm.

Every summer I make a pilgrimage to the Durban Botanic Gardens when the lotus pond is swaying with huge, bowl-like leaves on stems a metre long. The buds and flowers are glorious and one can see why they are revered by Eastern religions. This triptyche of leaves ia painted from the "Red Bishop's" (a vibrant red bird that sits proudly on top of the dried pods and nests among the stems) view.
The painting that enhances this set of three Lotus Pond leaves is, "Lotus Flowers" (see on gallery page)

About Arlene

Arlene McDade

I live on the Bluff in Durban and due to the Bluff's elevation, it has the most spectacular sea views and this is the inspiration for all my seascapes. Durban is sub-tropical and has a lucious growth of beautiful flowering shrubs and trees. One does not have to go far, to be inspired to paint. I enjoy design, colour and texture to create an effect. Sometimes I paint the same flower in three different sizes, to be exhibited together. Ultimately I am a "design" artist, if that makes any sense.

Creating an effect with oversized botanical paintings gives the home and work environment a luxurious, tropical aura. My art is an extention of my womanhood and desire to create a tranquil and inspiring, living and working space. The objective I pursue in my art is harmony and peace.

Besides botanical subjects I love the Indian Ocean and it's different moods. Our huge azure sea with endless blue African skies, framed by massive Strelitzia Nicolai. The former bearing pods of white flowers that resemble mysterious, big white birds.

COMMISSIONS: I am willing to take on commissions of all subjects and lately have an interest in painting pets - see 'Princey' who is my latest. Like people, pets have their own personality and I try to capture this elusive quality.

I sometimes feel like a cross between a Victorian botanist and Claude Monet - stalking nature with a paintbrush. The absolute beauty of, one flower, drives me.

On request, a very limited edition of Giclee prints are available.

Galleries: Work is currently on exhibition at KZNSA Gallery in Durban. Tomasa Gallery in Durban. Cape Gallery, Cape Town.
