About "Maiden from Russia"

The traditional Russian icon is a religious image painted on a prepared, wooden panel. First a cloth is affixed to the face of the panel, then many layers of a primer made of glue and powdered chalk or alabaster are applied over it. When thoroughly dry, a design is incised into the surface. My painting is done with acrylic paints, that were applied in gradations of shade, with dark colours added first and lighter colours applied over them resulting in a slightly three-dimensional effect. I have finished this piece with a cracked effect of decoupage to resemble age

About Rina

The world is a canvas - paint on! This is the words my parents always said when I did not know what to do with myself. I am a born and bred South African, This land and its inhabitants is what inspired me most. I consider myself so blessed to live in a country with a rainbow of cultures.

I studied psychology after I matriculated. I however found myself embedded in the corporate world most of my working life.
I treasure various forms of art; I love sketching, painting, handcraft and many other art craft. In painting I treasure humankind. I love portraits of people but also nature.

I love warmth and tend to dramatise in my artwork. This is so because I love life. I am here for the giving and wish to share my paintings with you so that one day when I am gone, a piece of me is left behind as witness to my being on earth.
