About "Malkia wa Tembo - "Queen of elephants""

This painting is the culmination of 14 months worth of work.
Making art is more than a "technical" exercise. It's about more than the drawing or the painting. It much more than the skill, or the time, or the frustrations, about the self-doubt... It's about more than passion. In the case of a painting like DIDA the painting eventually carries the soul of the artist...

DIDA, from Tsavo, is the world's biggest living elephant cow and probably one of the most magnificent elephant cows that ever lived.

To say that I am passionate about DIDA is an understatement. To me Dida represents something of the fact that in society women are most often "overlooked". DIDA is more than a "big tusker" - she's a "female". She represents the mother - the source of life. Wisdom, Tenacity, Love, Understanding, Survival... She represents the female of a species! She represents "women"..!

The painting is 1,1m x 2,4m.

About Sannette

Sannette Boshoff

Also known as Sannette Fourie. I'm passionate about women, children, and colour. Colour is my vehicle to get the viewer's attention to connect with the emotion, the expression, to look deep within themselves and connect with whatever moves them. There is something of everybody in my paintings. I'm fascinated by the contrast that the female form presents. The softness of their skin, the roundness of their form, their vulnerability; compared to how strong their characters are, their souls, how much they can survive, how many times they can start over.
