Reference Bright Namakwaland About "Namakwaland" I personally don't like the highly saturated, primary coloured, naive landscape art that is currently fashionable in South-Africa. But I do understand the attraction of rich, bright colours and I strongly believe in stepping out of your box in order to grow. That is why I challenged myself to paint this landscape mainly in saturated colours while still aiming for believable depth and realism. Like a good friend of mine put it, "Maca's idea of a bright color is pink"... ;)You won't see me painting like this often, but corner-to-corner saturated paintings are totally in my repertoir. |

I love the process of making art and I especially love paintings that also shows the stages the painting went through, from sketchy to finely rendered. To me, it shows the hand of the artist and makes the painting so much more than a photo of the subject. I aim to paint representationally, contrasting realism with abstract, vintage with modern, rough with soft. Women and landscapes are a recurring theme because I have a strong connection with both and wish to celebrate their essence in my paintings. I am constantly learning and developing my craft and it is the most fulfilling journey and relationship with moments of utter joy (and despair). Price Range US$ 90-350 Exhibitions Sanlam prize for best painting on show during 2010 GWK Salon exhibition.
