About "Ndebele man" The young man had just completed his initiation, and is dressed in traditional Ndebele beadwork for the celebrations that follow. He and his fellow initiates were dignified and proud of their new status in the community. The beadwork is usually made by the womenfolk in the family. Because his family live on our farm, we were invited to the celebrations. I painted this portrait from photographs that I'd taken during the day's festivities. |
