About "Oliphants River, Citrusdal"

I spend a lot of time in the Cederberg. I stood amongst dried Aloe's and looked down the valley towards Citrus-dal.
Sizzling with heat, a clear still day.

About Ian

Ian Mackie

Ian Mackie was born in 1967. He studied Graphic Design at East London Technicon. Ian paints in a variety of mixed media ranging from oils and charcoal to working on rusted metal sheets. His "Afrocentric" style is a unique and varied mixture, influenced by African myth, social commentary, animals, icons and landscapes.

Latest Work
In May this year Iziko Museums hosted a "Picasso in Africa" exhibition in Cape Town. After viewing the master's works, I was deeply aware of how child-like and simple colours can become, and just how powerful such images can be. This, together with the humour of street life in Observatory, have inspired my latest works.
