About "Peace of Mind"

Speelman Makwe Mahlangu was born in 1958 in Katlehong, Gauteng. While studying at the Katlehong Art Centre, he focussed his attention on sculpture and drawing.

Mahlangu's paintings incorporate symbols from Ndebele murals and Egyptian hieroglyphics often depicting "things that one cannot see but can only feel", says Mahlangu. His themes include "the exploration and spiritual mythical ideas of the world to come. The role of music in African life and traditional rituals, African pots, human figures, calabashes and drums emerge from semi-abstract shapes."

Mahlangu has participated in numerous group exhibitions throughout South Africa and his unique and strong 'African' element has been recognised in various overseas countries.

This piece is framed and does not appear behind glass. The measurements including the frame are: 710mm wide x 605mm high
