About Bruce

Bruce Hancocks

By the time I turned 32, I had been to the South Pole, become a naval officer, earned a degree in fine art at the University of Natal, built 3 sail boats, a house and found a wonderful wife.
I went into hibernation and we went sailing to the Caribbean and loved the light, the sun, the water and the colours. I kept a mental and drawn record for later use. Almost 15 years later I started to come out of hibernation, created sculptures from Caribbean drift wood and dead trees I had found over the years; built another boat, put it to work and got back into art. My humour and fascination with shapes often find their way into my work in fun sculptures and interesting puzzles.
I love nature, trees, the sea and sunlight. Thanks to wonderful friends we have made over the years I learnt how to germinate and care for the endangered trees I love to work with. I have been working like crazy for several years using past sketches and records for my paintings. My work has been exhibited in the Caribbean and is in private collections in Holland, USA, UK, Canada, Australia, the Caribbean and South Africa.
