About "Samburu "

This painting depicts Kenya's wilder side - the North - Samburu with Ololokwe dominating the horizon.

I have often written about my longing and yearning to find true wilderness... And Peace.., but, for me at least, paintings like represent true escapism. The painting gave me the chance to dwell the plains of Samburu with her elephants. The image is timeless. It could have been a couple of days ago. It might have been 400 years ago, or perhaps 2000 years. I just know, the more I look for peace the more it evades me...

Something about Samburu and Ololokwe - in December, an elephant collared by "Save the Elephants" - Naisula from the Samburu Ladies family, climbed to the top of Ololokwe - the Samburu's sacred mountain almost 2000m above sea level in Northern Kenya and spent a month up there! While it's not the first time elephants have climbed this mountain, it's the first time they've tracked an elephant making this arduous journey. Ololokwe is home to forests and waterfalls so there are plenty of resources up there to keep elephants happy and healthy. Climbing Ololokwe is a tough challenge for most humans let alone a four tonne elephant! Naisula's incredible feat, no doubt completed with the rest of her family, shows just how strong and resilient elephants can be.
