About "Sex Scandal"
In Federico Garc[0xC3AD]a Lorca's play "When Five Years Pass", the theme of scandal, particularly related to sexuality, is subtly woven into the narrative. While the play does not explicitly focus on a sex scandal in the traditional sense, it reflects the societal tensions regarding desire, repression, and the consequences of forbidden love.
Lorca's exploration of sexuality is evident through the characters' interactions and the underlying tensions that arise from societal expectations. The play delves into the emotional turmoil of characters who grapple with their desires in a repressive environment. The protagonist's journey reflects the struggle between personal longing and societal norms, highlighting the consequences of living in a society that stifles true expression.
The character of the old man, who grows horns, serves as a potent symbol of wisdom and the burdens of experience. His horns can also be interpreted as a representation of societal judgment and the stigma attached to unconventional desires. This imagery suggests that the old man's experiences and the truths he carries are at odds with societal expectations, further emphasizing the theme of scandal associated with desire and identity.
The play's reception and the challenges it faced during its production reflect the broader societal discomfort with Lorca's exploration of sexuality. For instance, a planned production of "When Five Years Pass" was initially hindered due to the themes of sexuality and repression, showcasing how Lorca's work was often met with resistance from conservative elements within society. This censorship underscores the scandalous nature of his themes, as they challenged the status quo and provoked discomfort among audiences.

About Jacob
Hi, my name is Yakkov Seidman, I live and work in Johannesburg, South Africa. I was born in Bucharest, Romania, and graduated from Tel Aviv University.
I discovered art later in life and began my art-making journey with life drawing attending life-drawing classes. I studied art at the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
My work explores many themes, ranging from the human form to still life and abstraction. I like exploring the literary works of the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca. My work concerns the human condition, relating to love, alienation, and culture.
I am influenced by the 20th-century German Expressionist artists like Georg Baselitz, Martin Kippenberger, and Max Beckmann.
Among the great Spanish artists, I admire the confidence in Pablo Picasso's works and love the works of the "New King" Miquel Barcelo.
Paris is my favorite city, and my journeys across Africa and Congo have inspired many of my works.
My artworks attracted (were selected by) art lovers from the USA, France, and South Africa.
I always remember Edvard Munch's quote. "No longer shall I paint interiors with men reading and women knitting. I will paint living people who breath and feel and suffer and love"
