About Joe

Joe Ebersohn

Joe Ebersohn was born in Wynberg near Cape Town in 1947.

He finished school at Hottentots Holland High, Somerset West, after which he worked at the SABC as a set designer

In the early eighties he opened a studio in Woodstock where he devoted all his time to painting. These works focused on various aspects of life in the new South Africa with its political and social changes prevalent at the time. During this time, he also served on the Save District Six Committee under Father Basil van Rensburg. One of the highlights was an art exhibition held by the committee to create more awareness of the District Six situation.

Ebersohn works in watercolours and often uses his immediate environment as a starting point for his works. Architectural and Cape city scenes also often feature in his works.

He currently lives in the rural town of Botriver, where he devotes all his time to painting.

His work is much sought after by national and international, private and corporate collectors.
