About Colette

Colette de Klerk

Colette has always showed an interest in art, from entering into colouring competitions as a toddler to art festivals at school. In 1987, at the age of 13 she took informal/social art classes from Phil Breedt in Witbank, Mpumahlanga. At high school, she took art as a subject until grade 11. Her preffered medium at this stage was oil.

Colette studied B.Sc. Chemistry at Potchefstroom University and worked as a research scientist for five years. During this time she did very little as an artist. Only when Colette decided to go back to university full time to become a chemical engineer did she consider taking up art again. In February 2005 she became a student of Jan Wilken and received training in watercolour techniques and charcoal.

Colette is a scientist and engineer at heart, but believes that one should develop all of one's talents in order to develop not only intelectually but also spiritually. Science feeds the brain, but art feeds the soul.

Colette enjoys painting landscapes and drawing faces with interesting characteristics.
