About Liza
Liza Meyer, a true child of Africa, studied art in Port Elizabeth at Lawson Brown Art School and C.A.T.E and later at UNISA in Pretoria. Initially she focused mainly on commissioned work but the travel bug got her to explore North and South America where she was introduced to the different cultures and styles of these continents. This prompted her to experiment with different media and art forms.
Her passion for Africa [0x1] its different cultural groups and varied wildlife - brought her back home to explore this continent where she blossomed.
Then the call of the wild took her to Botswana. During her three year stay in Maun on the edge of the Okavango she ran a children[0x1]s art school . This was followed by a year living on the periphery of the Namib desert which honed her eye to portray on canvas the subtle colour variations that only this vast and untamed wilderness can produce. .
Liza currently lives in the Hartbeespoort Dam area in South Africa where she does mainly commissioned work, which includes murals, animal studies - wild and domestic - as well as portraits of young and old. She has an uncanny talent for portraying each animal or person[0x1]s specific character and nature. The horses, cats and dogs literally come alive, ready to step out of the frame. The children[0x1]s portraits make you want to ruffle their hair and embrace them. Her flower studies draw you in to want to smell the fragrance.
Liza enjoys working in different media, although it is her pencil sketches that embody some of her finest work. She has a fine eye for the smallest bit of detail which sets her work apart from many other artists.
