About Andrew
Andrew studied Fine Art at Michaelis School of Fine Art from 1980 -1984 and then worked as Foundation Year lecturer at Ruth Prowse Art Centre in Salt River Cape Town from 1985 to 1991.
He was a finalist in Daan Retief Book Illustration Competition 1986 and went on to work on childrens book illustrations for Haum Daan Retief and Maskew Miller. He began his own art school, Andrew Owen School of Art in Somerset West in 1990 till today. During this time his time for creating art was limited but in 2010 he once again focussed his time on his art career.
He has participated in several exhibitions of fine art as a painter at Association for Visual Arts and has exhibited his own work annually at his school in Somerset West.
My work is about my world; the people, places and things I love. I enjoy capturing a moment with a simple play of light, or a combination of architecture and people.
I believe in the fundamental principles and processes of art. This means a strong association with the historic disciplines of drawing and painting - Andrew Owen
