About Liz

I was born in the Eastern Cape, grew up on a cattle farm, right on the sea, and studied Fine Art in Durban. At the moment I am living in a remote part of Northern Portugal, very close to the Spanish border. I have always loved oil paints, their tactile qualities, and bold brushtrokes, artists like Matisse, and also Hockney, esp. the Expressionistic interiors that he painted in California, in the 1990's , also the portraits of his dachshunds.I also admire young artists like Elizabeth Peyton and Cecily Brown.
I find subject-matter a dilemma sometimes and the debate over style v content, then I think, what the hell, style IS content, and the paint is the subject. My kids think I'm a dork with terrible taste, because of my love of all things shiny, ( i use sequins and small rhinestones in some of my paintings )

Group exhibitions, and 5 solo exhibitions in Portugal, at the Corte Real Gallery, Lua Azul Gallery, Sao Bras Museum Gallery, Galeria Alegria, and in some some French restaurants! My work is in private collections all over the world, incl. New York, London, Montego Bay, Sydney, Dublin, Cape Town, Faro and Lisbon.
