About Semi
A Joburg based self-taught artist from Ivory Park township.
His works are characterized by the dominance of township ambience, which reflects the connection the artist has for his neighbourhood. He draws inspiration from the day to day lives of ordinary people in the township and makes use of charcoal, watercolours & acrylics on paper to relate stories & experiences of the township lives.
His style is characterized by firm charcoal strokes with soft shades combined with bright colours that bring an element of vibrance & vividness.
These works bring awareness of social issues affecting the communities in the townships and invites the audience to experience the feelings.
His love for art started during the primary school days where he'd draw cartoon characters on his school books. The hardships of growing up fuelled his passion for the arts to grow beyond measure. In 2019, he left a 9 to 5 office job to pursue Art on a full time basis
"I grow everyday from every stroke & critique, one just never stops learning..." he says.
