Reference Strelitzia vase About "Strelitzia Vase " My whole life I've loved Strelitzia flowers as they grew abundantly in our garden. I always loved their colours and their stately, elegant appearance. The vessel was built using the coil method (not a wheel), out of clay dug from the farm dam. It has pieces of grit and various colours in it. I have always loved the traditional Greek vessel shapes that have inspired this vessel. It is large (54cm x 41cm) and heavy. It had held flowers at two exhibitions in the Durban area. |

For as long as I can remember I have done some form of art. I have been blessed with having the greatest mentors to cross my path and encourage me. I was introduced to ceramics at a particularly stressful time in my life. IT offered me an escape route and an endless array of options for decorating, where drawing had become stale. The therapeutic value of ceramics and other art forms lies as much in looking at the finished piece as it does in the process. I am inspired by ancient work, by nature and by all that exists regardless of the presence of humans. There is comfort in knowing that whether or not we are here, the world continues to exist.
