Reference ABS107141 About "The Butterfly" I was looking for a lightness of feeling but the exhileration of some bright colour. When the painting was complete it reminded me of being a child and when we folded paper in half and imagined what image was produced by the paint. This was totally unintentional but at the end it looked to me like a butterfly. A flight of the imagination. |

Painting and drawing was first introduced to me at a young age by my father who had attended art school and also loved to paint. My first paintings followed the "old school" style where the picture was a likeness of what was visually seen. This, however, was too restrictive and at the age of 55 and semi retired I was able to set up a studio at home. This enabled me to express my feelings and love of colour more freely. Now there are not enough hours in a day to put all my ideas on canvas. Mostly my paintings start as an idea formed from nature or natural occurence but once started the colours and shapes take on a life of their own.
