About "The Front Row"

Edition No. 03 of 50
A third bull rushes to join the front row. The Cape Buffalo have sensed possible danger and have started to form a front-line of defense to protect the rest of the herd. More bulls are sure to follow.

About Ruben

Ruben du Plessis

Ruben du Plessis is a sculptor and painter. Ruben's sculptures and paintings feature in corporate and private collections both nationally and abroad. Ruben was born in East London in 1973, which is situated in the Eastern Cape; an area dubbed 'The Wild Coast' due to its dramatic coastline, jagged cliffs, wild beaches, game reserves and untamed wilderness. Drawing on 'The Wild Coast' as his inspiration, Ruben's passion for art was ignited in his childhood and has never waned. Ruben studied Art and Design at the Border Technicon in East London and has been a committee member of the East London Fine Art Society for numerous years.

Notable commissions include those for Mitsui OSK Lines, P&O Nedlloyd, Border-Kei Chamber of Business and various private collectors. His ability to perform in-depth research into the subject matter of his artworks has ensured a realistic portrayal of movement and proportions. He prides himself on his meticulous attention to detail and cultural accuracies. He transforms a lifeless medium into an enviable snapshot of life and movement, immortalised to forever evoke emotions of love and deep connection to the observer. While finite in its moment, the movement seems endless.
Ruben most enjoys creating sculptures of wildlife and people. He is inspired by the works of Rodin, Bernini, Bugatti, Vermeer, Sargent, Daily, and Pfeiffer.
