About "The Journey" “The Journey” was painted at a time of my life when I was going through a tough time. The painting is set in the Kwazulu Natal Drakensburg mountains which has always been a deeply spiritually inspiring place for me. I have depicted a road which disappears into the distance which symbolizes a personal journey which I was to undertake and which I was not sure where it would lead. The two trees on the side of the road depict my two small children. I felt I needed to provide my children with a place to settle and “put down roots”, hence the symbolism of the trees. I believe that we are all travelers through this life and that the road is not always smooth and well constructed – there are often rough patches, potholes and mountains to negotiate. The important part is that we keep moving forward and live in hope that there is something good around the next corner. |
