About "The Secret Place"
I have a secret place...
Sometimes its in my head, sometimes its out in the field riding my horse, listening to the whisper of the wind. My mind and life is sometimes like the north wind:A strong, continuous wind blowing down from the northern hills, and while it is cool it always drives away rain. Sometimes the wind is violent and active, like my mind. I find no peace there.
The bible talks about the storm wind breaking the rocks before it, but after that comes the still small voice:
...'and a great and strong wind tore into the mountains and broke the rocks in pieces before the Lord, but the Lord was not in the wind; and after the wind an earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake; and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a still small voice.'
That is the place where I want to hide my head under my mantle and just listen quietly. A place where there is no pressure to make decisions, no voices shouting and demanding. A secret Place.
In this painting I used different Blues to symbolize celestial truth. Its only in that secret place that I find truth and trust. Blue is the color of a hidden message with a deeper meaning that is below the surface. The viewer stand inside a river of blue that symbolizes law, commandments, grace and revelation. A river of healing.
When I stand in the river of truth I can get healed from the past. The past or pain is symbolized by the use of orange which reminds me of the heat of a fire. In order to heal a wound must be cauterized. I can endure and with endurance come strength and wisdom.

About Leonie
How I Create
The brightness of oils is mixed with the soft translucency of encaustics (wax), and creates hidden messages and layers below. The layering gives the work a softness and richness that invites the viewer to look closer and to experience the satin-smooth surface through touch. The wax layers get more and more translucent through the warmth emanating from the exploring human hand. The viewer becomes a part of the slow change and clarity of the painting...as if the message is rising from the depth of the hidden soul to the surface of the mind. There is a strange ethereal beauty to these paintings, as if made from air.
