About Cornelia
"My paintings are a reflection of my complex personality, give meaning to my life and colour to those of others"
I used to enjoy going off on my own as a kid and simply taking in and observing the vast expanse of space in front of me. Every painting I do has a personal, sentimental connection. I might be inspired and motivated by an object's textures or the captivating combination of colour and light.
I'm a South African police officer who has never taken an art class. The changes that have occurred in South Africa and my life since democracy have significantly impacted my paintings. Following democracy, I and many other South Africans have been much more conscious of the richness of my African background and environment. Because of that, even though I have never considered pursuing an education in the arts, I have become passionate about painting.
My paintings have a simple, innocent style. Earthy influences can be found in the majority of the pieces. Bright hues that portray the diverse country accentuate the usage of colour. I mostly use oils in my work, although I also experiment with different mediums.
