About "Zulu Sunrise"

the picture i a traditional Zulu elder. She was photographed at the annual Zulu Reed Ceremony, where close to 15000 Zulu maidens go to celebrate their heritage and pay respect to the King. This artwork is symbolic of the lonely life that the traditional woman have in a vast future. Their husbands and family leave for the cities to get work and the elder woman remain in the rural areas. Even though they stand together their is alot of pain and hardship reflected in their eyes.

About Lianne

An Ode to the Woman of Africa. They have maintained our heritage and culture. Each artwork sold, proceeds will be given to the woman in the picture as well as a community project introducing solar ovens into their region. 15 years ago, i spent time with a traditional healer, during the period i had a dream, of all the tradional woman dressed in a vast landscape, i floated through them. I told the healer of the dream, he said to me that the dream meant one day i would help all these women. so, this series is a strong locamotive to make the dream come to fruition.
All of these woman were photographed during traditional celebration ceremonies across Southern Africa, over the past 15 years. I really believe in the true sense of African "ubuntu" which means humbleness. Through the years of spending many evenings with them they have given me so much wisdom and great sense of identity. A San healer and elder shared with me the most profound words, he said " As i walk, talk, eat and sleep, i am constantly ONE with the universe, I do not need to go to church or meditate to be spiritual, i am always with God."
