About "11 Cheetah in Light"
Cheetah Cub in the Light captures a moment of quiet presence within a young animal whose nature is often associated with speed and movement.
Here, the focus shifts away from action and toward stillness. The cub rests within a field of soft light, where structure and atmosphere come forward together. The light does not sit on the surface, but moves through the form, revealing subtle transitions within the fur and a calm, attentive gaze.
What drew me to this subject was the contrast between expectation and reality. The cheetah, known for its velocity, appears here in a state of rest -- alert, aware, yet entirely still. This moment holds a kind of balance between potential movement and quiet observation.
In Solar Realism, the intention is to observe how light is contained within matter, rather than simply reflected from it. In this work, that presence of light becomes central, shaping both the physical form and the emotional tone of the piece.
The original oil painting on panel has been sold.
Its inclusion here reflects its importance within the body of work and the response it has received. It stands as an example of the quiet, attentive approach that defines this series.
Fine-art gicl[0xC3A9]e prints are available in selected formats, offering a way to engage with the work while maintaining the integrity of the original.

About Leone
Leone Tonkinson is a South African-born fine artist based in the Netherlands and founder of Solar Realism, a painting approach centred on the presence and character of natural light.
Working primarily in oils, she combines traditional layered painting techniques with close observation, creating still lifes, wildlife and botanical works marked by luminosity, quiet presence and finely observed detail.
Her South African roots and her life within the Dutch landscape both inform her work, bringing together warmth, nature and a strong sense of place. Rather than simply depicting a subject, Tonkinson seeks the moment when light, atmosphere and presence give it emotional resonance.
Her work is held in private collections and exhibited in the Netherlands and internationally.

Exhibitions
Leone Tonkinson has exhibited in both South Africa and Europe, with recent exhibitions in the Netherlands. Her work is held in private collections internationally.
She is the founder of Solar Realism, a painting approach that explores light not simply as illumination, but as an active presence within the subject. Through traditional layered oil-painting techniques, careful observation and controlled natural light, form, atmosphere and emotional presence emerge together.
Her work applies this approach to still life, wildlife and the natural world, where reflected light, transparency, texture and subtle shifts in colour become part of the subject itself.
Education
