About "Dreamscape with Hounddog" Alvera painted this picture after reading the artist Salvador Dali's history. His work fascinated her. She said that it seemed as if he asked a question and then painted the answer. So she spent many whimsical hours asking silly questions and then painting what she believed the answer to be. The question that inspired this picture was: What if we all wore our spiritual colour on the outside? How would that look? The purple people seen here are fairly spiritual people depicted by the purple colour of their skin. |

Alvera Walker passed away in Feb 2008 at the age of 82. She started painting at 62 when she joined a local art club in Port Alfred. Within a year she was selling potboilers at the local coffee shops. Alvera loved painting the wildlife big five, animals which she grew up with in the Rhodesian bushveld. She spent the last ten years of her life near the sea in Port Alfred, a lovely quiet seaside town in the Eastern Cape. Many of Alvera's magnificent seascapes and dolphins were inspired by the beauty of this place. She leaves a legacy of only 150 paintings that include birds, dolphins, wildlife and flowers. She also painted some whimsical paintings that she called her "What if? "paintings, which were strongly influenced by Salvador Dali. Many of her paintings have been sold to art lovers around the world and now grace some of the most beautiful homes in the world.
