Erik’s signature works are based on the landscapes of the Boland, Overberg, Kouebokkeveld, the Karoo and Namibia which he has consistently scrutinized, deciphered and interpreted to capture both the underlying structure and the psychology of the land..” Melvyn Minnaar writes, “ Erik Laubscher is a part of local culture history. It is a special, well-deserved place which did not always allow due recognition for his best art – including some of the most magnificent landscapes of the Western Province, rarely recorded by others.” Laubscher’s achievements rewarded him with a Carnegie Study Grant to the USA in 1966.
