About Bets

Bets Meyer

During my career as an artist I painted various subjects and then became enthralled by the shape and form of the succulents.

With closer study I discovered much unexpected detail and beauty within their structure and textures. I enjoyed the rhythms, colors, and textures which they express while painting them.

Beauty is so often overlooked in the less desirable and insignificant things surrounding us.

There are so many species of succulents, and with global warming a serious issue, these plants are becoming more poplar in our gardens.

I studied under qualified artists, namely- Charles Gotthard, Nicolas Smith, Ann Visagie during the 1980's and 1990's.
I then furthered my studies at the Vaal Triangle Technicon in 1999 and I have also studied under Mohamed Hamza who tutors in Wales, currently studying under Anita Bodenstein Booyens in order to enhance my technical skills.

Exhibitions

I Participated in exhibitions with the Sasolburg Art Society, Klerksdorp Art Society (Ad Artem) and the Vaal Triangle Technicon.
In 2008 I was one of the artists invited to take part in the annual Ad Artem’s exhibition in Klerksdorp. It was a poetry exhibition in which artists were required to portray their interpretations of the poetry of Elizabeth Eybers. I received the award for the best interpretation of one of her poems.
