About "Land Beyond Time"

My latest painting.

I've literally spent an entire month on this painting, battling to get it done in between all the other demands life threw at us this last month. Almost all the painting was done at night. Unfortunately only an hour or so every night on my own and without other interference. Despite the limited time the painting has been haunting my thoughts for days now...

Something in me yearns for wide open spaces... Places where I can breathe... Perhaps that's why I paint vast outstretched landscapes. Ironically the wide open spaces in my paintings somehow hints more to the past than anything else. It is the yearning, the memories... That bits that are forever slipping further away... The images, the emotions, the sights and sounds and smells, that start fading that I'm somehow trying to capture...

The inspiration for this come from many different places and the work of other artists I admire, yet, the entire painting is fictive, and is no place in particular - and yet it could be almost anywhere in Africa...

It is a serious painting. Mixed media, oils and acrylics on stretched canvas. About 89 cm x 116 cm.

I've loved the veld and wildlife for as long as I can remember. After school and military service I worked in Air Traffic Control for two years before studying Nature Conservation. I worked in Nature conservation and veterinary research before starting a full-time career in art 35 years ago.I have maintained my involvement with conservation over the last 26 years. I have conservation projects registered at Mpumalanga Parks Board and National Parks Board.
