About "Magic Moments"

When I started my art career 35 years ago it was an uphill battle for the most part - mostly clinging on for dear life, trying to survive. Ironically it was sunsets - or sunset and dawn paintings - that saw my first financial success, 8 years after I started painting. I lived at Hendriksdal near Sabie at the time. It was another 4 or 5 years later that I started doing business with someone who sold a lot of my paintings.
Unfortunately, as goes with working for an "agent", he dictated what he wanted and what worked. At one stage he criticized me for my sunset paintings. It discouraged me to the point where I all but stopped painting sunsets. Up to this day, more than 20 years later, I almost completely steer clear of painting sunsets. But then.., sometimes life calls for us to be brave... so, here is my latest painting.
My painting depicts the area North of Satara, as you drive to Olifants Camp, looking West towards Timbavati. Here the flat basalt plains to the East give rise to the undulating landscape towards the West. It is an area I know very well. And everyone who knows Satara will know that the area is best known for its zebras, wildebeest and giraffe - and the ever present lions.

I've loved the veld and wildlife for as long as I can remember. After school and military service I worked in Air Traffic Control for two years before studying Nature Conservation. I worked in Nature conservation and veterinary research before starting a full-time career in art 35 years ago.I have maintained my involvement with conservation over the last 26 years. I have conservation projects registered at Mpumalanga Parks Board and National Parks Board.
