About "Pincushion Proteas"

These delicate pink proteas are aptly named "pincushions". The oil on canvas provides the realistic textures of these flowers, arranged in a clear crystal glass bowl which reflect the soft natural light
The painting is framed in an intricately carved and gold-leafed double frame, taking its size to 450x450 mm.

About Ingrid

Ingrid Weyer

I agree with Pablo Picasso when he said that "Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life".
I love great art; it feeds my soul. And because I also believe, as Albert Einstein did, that "creativity is contagious", I am painting for my own pleasure, hoping that I will pass some of this soul food and this pleasure on. I strive to attain a small fraction of the beauty that all the great painters have given us and are still inspiring us to achieve.
I am inspired, in particular, by the Impressionists and post impressionist painters: Van Gogh, C[0xC3A9]zanne. Picasso, Joaquin Sorolla, Modigliani and Irma Stern, but, as someone born in Africa, I cannot help but be inspired as well by nature and its endless landscapes, and of course by the exquisite light and colour of this vast continent.

1954-1960 First art classes at the Art Centre in Skinner Street Pretoria, later studied History of Art at the University of Pretoria.
My first teachers were Walter Batiss and George Boys
I started painting again full time in recent years, after retiring from a full time job as in-house magazine editor.
Current inspirational teachers are: Ina Wilken from Vermont, Cape; and Ruth Walter from Clarens.
