About Riana

(Maria Johanna) At a stage in my life I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and was at the height of my career being a very successful Financial Adviser in the old Transkei - a place whose rural people and ambiance I grew to love. I had to stop working because of this illness and after months sitting at home, I decided to take art lessons rather than indulging in self-pity and as I am a very creative person. That was approximately 15 years ago and I love to express my inner most being in the form of color. My illness has never progressed to a very bad stage because as an artist I sometimes work 15 hours per day. My art has been a healing experience for me. My greatest inspiration is derived from the Impressionists - of whom Cezanne and Van Gogh stand out for me, personally. I hope the viewer will relate to my experience and enjoy the adventure of Art with me.
