About "Silent Protest - Dust at Dawn"

I often use the words "fascinating" or "fascinated"... (I wish I could find a better word..). Elephants have over the years taken up so much of my thoughts and time and even money... Deep inside l connect with elephant, probably more than with people. In a way they (Elephants) are almost like another "tribe" - not just animals. And in me is a deep need to truly understand them.

So. I wonder by myself - why is it that I have a "thing" about elephants that panic? From an "artistic" perspective they certainly make for a variety of interesting poses, and movement (and dust always creates drama and atmosphere), but that's not exactly it... perhaps the scene reminds me of our personal conflicts... Always having to defend oneself. Always living on the edge. Always defensive. Constantly on the lookout for and being aware of the threat. Always having to decide whether to remove oneself from the situation or go on the defensive...

Maybe it is Sentience.., the capacity of a being to experience feelings and sensations. (The word was first coined by philosophers in the 1630s for the concept of an ability to feel, derived from Latin sentientem, to distinguish it from the ability to think). And one thing my own experiences, and the work of many academics confirm - elephants certainly display a range of emotions very similar to our own, ranging from joy and sadness to fear.
Perhaps that's it... ... Feeling a deep connection with elephants... Being empathetic to their woes.., their fears...
