About Willem

Willem Kallmeyer

Kallie is an artist with SouthAfricanArtist.com

I am of South African decent and hail from a mining and farming community.

Over the past 22 years I have established a family run business based in East London in the Eastern Cape, which is run by my wife, my two sons and my self.

I am self taught and have no formal training or guidance.

The late sixties is when my love for painting was born and some of my works were exhibited in Springs in Eastern Gauteng. During this time I was also commissioned by international patrons from Europe and the United States, which pleased me greatly to know that some of my works are being appreciated abroad.

I stopped painting in the seventies in order to pursue my business interests and assume my family responsibilities. Although I stopped painting, my love for the arts never faded. I re-established my connection with the brush and palette knife in November 2010 having been influenced by local artist Andre Grobler from whom I draw a lot of inspiration.

My primary medium is oils using a wet technique with a palette knife. I enjoy the wonderful movement and spray of the sea and a typical South African countryside.

I hope my works will give you the same pleasure and amazement of the ever changing hues and shapes that is nature in our truly beautiful country.
