Reference AP 407 About "Transkei Sunset" This study is about bright light and deep shade as the sun sets over a Transkei Village. The gravel street and the small houses dotted on the far hills conveys a sense of humble, and yet poverty existence.The shadowy individual near the bottom right corner adds an element of sinister malevolence while the old lady sitting on the stoep enjoying a setting sun is a reflection of the incredible patience of a humble tribal matriarch. The looseness of the painting is indicative of the haphazard rural settlements of the Transkei. |
