About Althea

Althea Botha studied fine arts at the University of Johannesburg in 2007 and developed her artistic skills in different mediums such as print making, sculpture, drawing, painting and ceramics. This influenced her to combine these elements and create mixed media artworks mostly around the subjects of portraiture and the human form, physically and spiritually. Althea had her first exhibition at Bamboo in Melville alongside many local artists. She also participated in the Joburg Fringe Art Fair during her studies.

Since university, Althea has been involved in government funded projects and painted the mural at the June 16th 1976 Soweto memorial site with a team of local artists. She was also involved in another memorial site community project in Mamelodi in collaboration with local artists. Since then she is continuously developing her style as an artist and works from her studio in Randburg.
