About Carol

Carol Williams

Carol Williams attended both Menlo Park Primary and Secondary Schools. She matriculated at the age of 17 with full university exemption and studied Fine Arts at the Pretoria Technicon. Later she also studied BA Psychology at the University of Pretoria (Tuks) and obtained her degree at the University of South Africa (UNISA).
As a teenager, her art was heavily influenced by Salvador Dali, Alexis Preller and Paul Gauguin. During her studies, she became drawn to the works of Judith Mason, Henri Rousseau and Francis Bacon. A selection of her works were exhibited at Annual Student Exhibitions at the Pretoria Technicon Art School.
Carol lived and worked as an English teacher in Taiwan for six years and on her return to South Africa, she applied at The Ernst de Jong Acadamy of Fine Art and had to show six of her most recent works. She was accepted into the Advanced Painting Class and started her studies at The Academy during 2007.
Through Ernst de Jong's tutoring, she discovered the delight of using palette knives and a whole new world opened up to her; a world of texture, subtle depth and controlled freedom in painting techniques.
Carol loves animals, music and reads as much as possible. Her hobbies include writing, poetry, photography and cooking exotic Moroccan, Spanish, Chinese and Hungarian dishes for friends to enjoy over delectable, fun & philosophical discussions. Sometimes just to talk a lot of crap & enjoy the company, red wine, music, a multitude of candles and burning Tibetan sticks of inscense.
During 2009 she received a commission from BOE (Bank of England) for eight paintings and she is also represented in private collections in South Africa.
She has exhibited at Artists of the Academy Exhibitions, BOE Private Clients Ehhibition, the God's Washing Line Exhibition, as well as a Contemporary Artists Exhibition at The Centurion Theatre.
The artist: I try to portray on canvas an honest interpretation of what I see with my eyes, touch with my fingertips, hear with my heart, taste with my mind and feel with my soul.
