About Dewald
I am a monochrome artist specializing in both wildlife portraiture and contemporary work. Growing up near the Kruger National Park in South Africa, my deep passion for African wildlife has profoundly influenced my artistic journey. However, my portfolio extends beyond wildlife, encompassing contemporary pieces that explore abstract concepts, human emotions, and modern aesthetics.
Working predominantly in black-and-white charcoal and pan pastel powders, I masterfully emphasize shadows and negative space to create striking, detailed, and emotive artworks. Occasionally, I incorporates subtle touches of color with pastel pencils to highlight key features, adding depth and vibrancy to my creations.
My wildlife-inspired pieces evoke the spirit and majesty of nature, while my contemporary works explore dynamic forms, textures, and concepts that resonate with modern interior design. This versatility ensures that my art complements a range of spaces, from elegant lodges and high-end homes to sophisticated commercial environments.
Over the years, my work has gained international recognition, with collectors in Belgium, the UK, the USA, Germany, Mozambique, Australia, and Namibia. My art is currently featured in the Michelangelo Inflight Magazine as part of the Wildlife Artist of the Year 2025 introduction.
My dual focus on wildlife and contemporary art offers a unique opportunity to add a tailored artistic element to any interior space. Whether the vision leans towards timeless elegance or cutting-edge modernity, my pieces bring depth and sophistication to private collections, luxury lodges, villas, and exclusive apartments.
