About Humphrey

"Since I was a child I always loved drawing, unfortunately I was unable to attend a proper art college. I reached my teens and ended up in a technical school where I did engineering drawing. I got badly injured in a motor bike accident and suffered cerebral contusion in a coma for 14 days. During my
recuperation period I got bad headaches when trying to read. The one thing that kept me sane was drawing and painting. I painted T-shirts with John Lennon, Jimmi Hendricks and my mother sold them for me. I then purchased a guitar which led to playing in bands. I found that the rhythm of the music
helped the rhythm of my brushes. Eventually I met Nanda Sooben and was fortunate to attend the CFAD Centre of Fine Art Animation and Design where I received part-time instruction in drawing and painting which helped me to continue my life-long passion to become known in the art world. I have always enjoyed drawing people, especially their eyes. People always want portraits but I don't like to make them like photo perfect, they must look different, something to shock them with bright colours, shapes etc. I mean if you want to look perfect, go have yourself photographed!"
