About Joy

I was born in Rhodesia as it was called back then, now Zimbabwe, a wonderful country. It was here that I raised my family who in turn were able to experience the diversity and richness of this African land, its people, animals, birdlife, bush and culture. I trained and worked as a nursing sister before opening and running a successful interior design business. The business was both exciting and challenging, at the same time allowing my creativity to begin expressing in my life.
In 2000 I left Zimbabwe and made my home in Cape Town, South Africa, later moving to the small town of Greyton in the Western Cape, the most beautiful little spot on Earth where colours in nature are constantly changing, revealing the changing of the seasons.
My first expression in art was with water colour, later moving to acrylic abstract canvas painting, which gave room for free expression, fun, colour and movement, I love it and still enjoy this form of painting today. About 3 years ago I was fortunate to attend art classes in charcoal drawing with a well known artist in Australia, I have continued charcoal drawing, learning new techniques along the way, using charcoal made at home from the branches of my beautiful willow tree in the garden. I have always enjoyed art and the exquisite richness of colour and texture, the detail and softness of charcoal, all of which allow me to fully express my creativity.
