About Laura
I believe a painting merely acts as a portal to your imagination, to your inner self - that something you recognise and appreciate because it resonates within.
Whether I express myself through landscapes, psychological portraits, objects (such as my bowl series) or abstracts it isn't the physical that I am depicting. I try to depict a state of being. Using colours, forms and textures I express the energy of the emotion, the sounds and silences, the heat or coolness as well as the yearning of open spaces and simply being.
Through my landscapes I express my need for freedom, openness and harmony. Nature, in the vastness of the land and skies and the stillness of these spaces is the essence being depicted.
My bowl series expresses our connection to the unnoticed and unseen. The shape of things and how they occupy their place and how we interact with them. The bowls are also representative of the self and explores the harmony or standing we seek.
The Energy series is an expression joy, freedom and the unison of sensation, movement and light.
The Ebb and Flow Series are expressions of an intellectual discussion on the nature of man, his urges and discussions, man's migrations, movement and constant search for change and balance based on the psychological stressors in life.
Once again, the Harmony in Chaos series expresses the hidden rhythms and energies, the natural need for order in chaos and the striving for balance, harmony and beauty therein.
