About "Celtic Influence"

I wanted to do something showing many of my techniques and skills learned along the way.This piece is a floating canvas, suspended with perspex and the background wall colour is therefore visible. Included is mosaic, a pewter centerpiece and many textures. I love metallic's, and greytones, silver and pewter colors have become a big favorite of mine and I find this combination easily to display decoratively in a corporate or a home setting.

About Sonja

I am a self-taught artist based in the Eastern Cape, with a lifelong passion for colour. From an early age, I developed a deep connection to the vibrancy and emotion that colour evokes, which naturally led me to explore the world of paint effects. Over time, this passion evolved into a specialized focus on colour consultations, custom paint techniques for kitchens, furniture, and more, alongside teaching decoupage. This combination of skills has been the foundation of a successful and fulfilling career spanning over 25 years.

My journey as an artist has expanded into a variety of other arts and crafts, with painting - particularly abstract art - becoming my primary creative outlet. Acrylics and oils are my mediums of choice, and I am particularly drawn to working with diverse textures, including metallic and reflective paints, which add depth and dimension to my pieces. Texture painting is an integral part of my work, where I create layers of tactile surfaces that invite both visual and physical engagement. I have also developed a new love for painting florals, especially impressionistic florals, where I blend my abstract approach with delicate representations of nature, creating a fusion of vibrant colour, intricate detail, and dynamic brushstrokes.

As an educator, I share my knowledge and passion for the arts through teaching painting in acrylics and oils, mixed media, mosaic, and various paint techniques. I find great joy in guiding others to discover and express their own creativity, believing that there is nothing more rewarding than sharing the gifts we have been blessed with.
