Reference Farmhouse near hill About "Farmland 1" Its always hard for me to pinpoint exactly what inspired me about a scene. Growing up on a farm in the Northern Cape can be challenging for an artisticly minded young woman who mostly wanted out to someplace wetter, cooler and more cultured ;). I spent most of my early evenings sitting between the grasses and dreaming of the far-away life I'll have when I grow up. Now I'm older, wiser, again living in the Northern Cape and sitting between grasses and looking out on a farm gives me the same peace you'll find wrapped in your grandma's arms. I still yearn for cooler and wetter, but I love being wrapped in the peace of the landscape (and I love to paint views that give me that feeling) |

I love the process of making art and I especially love paintings that also shows the stages the painting went through, from sketchy to finely rendered. To me, it shows the hand of the artist and makes the painting so much more than a photo of the subject. I aim to paint representationally, contrasting realism with abstract, vintage with modern, rough with soft. Women and landscapes are a recurring theme because I have a strong connection with both and wish to celebrate their essence in my paintings. I am constantly learning and developing my craft and it is the most fulfilling journey and relationship with moments of utter joy (and despair). Price Range US$ 90-350 Exhibitions Sanlam prize for best painting on show during 2010 GWK Salon exhibition.
