About George
I am passionate about nature, the wonder of creation and the joy of discovery it brings. I studied Architecture at the University of Pretoria. I believe that the principles of design and composition that I learned at this time without the influence of a school of painting, laid the groundwork for a very open approach to painting. During this time I also had the opportunity to develop my photographic skills, further honed during a year spent as photographer for [0x1]PARATUS[0x1] magazine while completing my National Service. I worked in architecture for about 10 years, always with a yearning to do sculpture full time. However, I started out painting, exploring colour! I find that this exploration of colour is a continuos thread in my work. The other element that has found a place in my work is sculpture. I use cast panels, mounted above the canvas, or even relief work onto the canvas. I find the combination of paint and sculpture a fascinating exploration of space. Another stint full-time architecture work led to the medium I am currantly exploring, Digital Photography and image manipulation.
